A man is currently in a life-threatening condition following an incident that authorities are labeling as a random assault in downtown Toronto. The police responded to a distress call reporting an aggravated assault on May 22 in the vicinity of Yonge and Elm streets.

According to a press release issued by the police on Tuesday evening, the victim sustained severe injuries as a result of the attack. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed.

Law enforcement has identified the suspect as 42-year-old Toronto resident Robert Dewitt. Dewitt is now sought for charges of aggravated assault and assault in connection with this incident.

A spokesperson for the Toronto Police stated that they believe the assault to be a random act, and emphasized that Dewitt is considered a danger to the general public.

Described by the police as six feet tall with curly blonde hair, Dewitt was last seen wearing a dark leather coat, gray pants, light-colored New Balance shoes, and was riding a purple e-bike. The police have issued a warning urging the public not to approach Dewitt if spotted, but instead to immediately dial 911.
