York Regional Police have charged five men following a string of targeted residential break-ins, after a months-long investigation under Project Mattel, launched in March 2025. Authorities say the suspects strategically scouted homes across York Region, ensuring residents were away before forcibly entering through rear sliding doors.
On June 5, police responded to a break-in in the Weston Road and Langstaff Road area in Vaughan, where they intercepted a suspect vehicle and arrested three men at the scene. Officers recovered stolen items, break-in tools, and a radio frequency jammer, a device often used to block communication signals, potentially preventing alarm systems from alerting homeowners or authorities.
Subsequent search warrants executed at four residences and six vehicles led to the arrest of two additional suspects and the seizure of more stolen property.
All five individuals now face several serious charges, including:
Break and enter to commit an indictable offence Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence Participation in a criminal organization
Suspects charged:
Luis Alberto Rodríguez Martínez, 27, of Toronto Francisco Felipe Rodriguez Martinez, 22, of Toronto Carlos Alberto Rodriguez Vera, 46, of no fixed address Mike Sebastian Rodriguez Martinez, 25, of Vaughan Wilson Mejia Arango, 49, of Toronto.
Police continue their investigation and are urging homeowners to remain vigilant, especially regarding suspicious individuals or vehicles seen in residential neighborhoods.
