Toronto police have issued an arrest warrant for a 19-year-old man in connection with a shooting that took place in Scarborough this past June. The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 15 at the intersection of Birchmount Road and Finch Avenue East.
According to police reports, two men were standing in front of a business at the intersection when they were approached by another individual. A verbal exchange ensued, during which one of the men allegedly produced a firearm and fired shots at the individual. All parties involved fled the scene before police arrived. Authorities later located and interviewed the victim of the shooting.
On Thursday, Toronto police identified the alleged shooter as Sharmake Ahmed. He is currently wanted for multiple charges, including discharge of a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, and failure to comply with disposition.
Sharmake Ahmed is described as six feet tall, weighing 170 pounds, with a medium build and black hair.
This shooting took place around the same time as another violent incident just south of the intersection, at Glendower Circuit, where a 16-year-old boy was tragically killed. One suspect in that case has been charged with first-degree murder, while a second suspect remains at large.
When asked if the two incidents might be related, a spokesperson for Toronto police declined to comment further, stating that no additional information would be released at this time.
Toronto police are urging anyone with information regarding Sharmake Ahmed’s whereabouts or the June 15 incident to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing.
