On May 31, 2024, at approximately 2:46 p.m., police received a report of an individual with a firearm in the area of Ponytrail Drive & Fieldgate Drive in Mississauga. Patrol officers promptly responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody.
Following this initial arrest, a thorough investigation was conducted by the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau with the assistance of the Specialized Enforcement Bureau. This led to the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Mississauga.
As a result of the investigation, police seized:
- 117 kilograms of cocaine
- 4 kilograms of methamphetamines with an estimated street value of $3.5 million
- A quantity of Canadian currency
- A loaded .45 calibre Glock handgun
- 9 rounds of ammunition
Rashid Al-Hasan, a 20-year-old man from Mississauga, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Point Firearm
- Disguise with Intent
- Carry Concealed Weapon
- Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x 2
Rashid Al-Hasan was held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
