Diego Armando Lillo, has been arrested for allegedly defrauding an elderly woman of thousands of dollars under the guise of helping her grandson. The incident unfolded in the vicinity of Grenadier Road and Roncesvalles Avenue, prompting a swift response from Toronto police following a fraud call on a Thursday afternoon.

According to authorities, the victim received a call the day before from two individuals – one impersonating her grandson and the other claiming to be a police officer. The faux officer informed the elderly woman that her grandson required $7,500 for bail and assured her that a bondsman would personally collect the funds from her residence. She was instructed not to notify anyone to avoid jeopardizing her grandson’s release.

True to the fraudulent plan, a man arrived at her doorstep later that day, collecting the money as directed. The following day, the victim was contacted again by the alleged police officer, demanding an additional $7,500 for bail, with the same individual slated to pick up the funds. Suspicions arose within the elderly woman, prompting her to reach out to the police.

In a commendable response, law enforcement swiftly apprehended the suspect when he returned for the second payment. Diego Armando Lillo now faces charges including two counts of impersonating a peace officer, two counts of fraud over $7,500, one count of assault with intent to resist arrest, and failure to comply with a release order.
