In a series of alarming incidents, the Toronto Police Service has successfully apprehended a suspect believed to be involved in a spree of home invasions and break-ins. The arrest sheds light on a wave of criminal activity that has left victims facing significant damages, with an estimated total value of approximately $1,300,000.
The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Naz Tokhi of Toronto, was taken into custody by members of the Provincial Car Jacking Joint Task Force on November 7, 2023. The charges against Tokhi include robbery, robbery with an offensive weapon, nine counts of disguise with intent, nine counts of theft of a motor vehicle, six counts of break and enter commit, three counts of break and enter with intent, possession of property obtained by crime over, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
The string of incidents began to unfold on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 3:25 a.m. when police responded to a home invasion call in the area of Bayview Avenue and Eglinton Avenue. The accused, alongside an unknown accomplice, allegedly threw a rock through the front door, confronted the resident, and forcibly took car keys before fleeing the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
This pattern continued over the following weeks, with additional break-ins reported on September 12, 13, 14, 21, 23, and 25, as well as on October 2. The suspects consistently targeted residences in various areas of the city, utilizing tactics such as breaking windows and confronting homeowners to demand car keys.
