A significant manhunt is in progress as authorities across Canada seek a 17-year-old wanted in connection with the shooting death of a security guard at Pickering Casino Resort last month. In a recent update, Durham Regional Police shed light on the ongoing investigation, revealing that the teenager is wanted for second-degree murder related to the tragic incident that occurred on Thanksgiving.

The grim sequence of events unfolded in the early morning hours of October 9 when officers responded to reports of an armed individual at the entertainment complex. At the scene, they discovered a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound, later identified as 34-year-old Michael Ferdinand, a security guard at the resort. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.

During the investigation, Det.-Sgt. Brad Corner stated, “He was senselessly shot and killed,” emphasizing the unexplained nature of the attack. At this point, it does not appear to have been a planned assault.

The police have identified 17-year-old Tyjae Nosworthy-Smith as the primary suspect in the shooting. While he has no fixed address, investigators believe he has connections to the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area in Toronto. His description includes a height of five feet eight inches, weighing 110 pounds, and a tattoo on his left elbow bearing the word ‘Chantel.’ He is also known by the alias “Baby2.”

Remarkably, despite being a minor, the courts have granted permission to release Nosworthy-Smith’s identity and description to the public. Authorities are making efforts to circulate photos of the suspect to aid in his identification.

Det.-Sgt. Corner issued a strong warning, stating, “There is currently a Canada-wide warrant out for Nosworthy-Smith for second-degree murder. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.” He urged the public not to approach the suspect if seen and to call 911 immediately.

Additionally, Det.-Sgt. Corner made it clear that anyone found assisting the suspect in evading the police will face legal consequences to the fullest extent.

Individuals with information regarding Nosworthy-Smith’s whereabouts have been urged to contact the Durham Regional Police Homicide Unit, as the manhunt intensifies to bring the suspect to justice.
