Toronto police have made significant progress in a drug and firearm investigation, resulting in the arrest and charging of three men and a 15-year-old boy. The arrests took place on Saturday, and the individuals now face multiple drug and firearm-related charges.
Although the police have not disclosed the duration of the investigation or the specific trigger that initiated it, they have provided some details about the arrests. During the operation, law enforcement seized a fully-loaded Taurus handgun, equipped with 11 rounds of ammunition in the magazine, and a quantity of drugs.
Adriel Rodrigues, a 22-year-old resident of Toronto, faces a total of 17 charges, including possession of a loaded firearm and trafficking a controlled substance.
Aaron Verghese, 21, from Burlington, is charged with 14 offenses, including carrying a concealed weapon and trafficking a controlled substance.
Awais Khan, 25, also from Toronto, is facing 18 charges, which include possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a firearm while prohibited by a court order. Notably, Khan was also the subject of a Canada-wide parole warrant, which was executed upon his arrest.
In addition to the adult suspects, a 15-year-old boy from Toronto has been charged with 14 offenses, including possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. Due to legal restrictions outlined in the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identity of the minor cannot be revealed.
All four individuals appeared in a Toronto court on Sunday morning for bail hearings, where the charges against them were reviewed. The police investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the case. Individuals can provide information to the police directly or choose to report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
