York Regional Police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an alarming incident that occurred earlier this month in Richmond Hill.

The individual was caught on camera setting an SUV ablaze in the driveway of a residence, prompting a swift response from authorities. Police have released the security footage in hopes of identifying the suspect and bringing him to justice.

In the early morning of June 10, York Regional Police received a distress call regarding a fire at a residence on Estoril Street near Berwick Crescent and 16th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a silver Subaru Crosstrek parked in the driveway was engulfed in flames. Thankfully, three sleeping occupants of the house were unharmed due to the alertness of one of the residents who had heard unusual noises outside.

The shocking incident was captured on the home’s security video, which was made public by the police on Tuesday. In the footage, the suspect is seen pouring a flammable liquid over the SUV before igniting it. Within moments, the vehicle becomes fully engulfed in flames. The perpetrator quickly flees the scene, last seen running northbound on Estoril Street.

Authorities have provided a description of the suspect to aid in their search. The individual is believed to have a medium build and was wearing a hooded jacket or vest with different-colored long sleeves, dark-colored pants, and white running shoes.
