In a shocking case of mistaken identity, three Toronto men have been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting an innocent dog walker in Schomberg, Ontario.

The suspects, believed to be members of the notorious Mara Salvatrucha street gang, commonly known as MS-13, were reportedly hired by an organized group to carry out the targeted killing of a man.

The incident occurred in February when the suspects mistakenly targeted the wrong individual during the shooting. The victim, a 65-year-old man who was simply taking his dog on a morning walk, was caught in the crossfire. He sustained critical injuries after being shot at 13 times but is expected to survive.

Initially, detectives believed that the man was ambushed due to gesturing at a speeding vehicle to slow down. However, further investigation led to the discovery of the mistaken identity.

The case, known as Project Rebellion, has been under the jurisdiction of York police. Between May 18 and June 1, a series of warrants were executed in Toronto, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers made significant discoveries. They seized a handgun, along with an AK-47 assault rifle equipped with ammunition and a drum magazine. Additionally, undisclosed quantities of cocaine and fentanyl were allegedly confiscated.

Carlos Ricardo Gutierrez, 27, Carlos Pena Torrez, 34, and Kenny Banchon Urbina, 30, are facing charges of attempted murder, as well as conspiracy to commit murder. The seriousness of these charges reflects the gravity of the incident and the potential harm inflicted upon the innocent victim.
