Toronto police have reported the arrest of an individual outside a school in the Upper Beaches area early Thursday morning. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident.

The arrest took place near Bowmore Road Junior & Senior Public School after police received a report about an armed male suspect in the vicinity of Kellner Court and Edgewood Grove, located near Coxwell Avenue and Dundas Street East at approximately 8:55 a.m.

Officers swiftly located and apprehended the suspect outside the school, and during the arrest, a firearm was also recovered, as confirmed by police sources. Authorities assured the public that there was no danger to the students attending the school.

The principal of Bowmore Road Junior & Senior Public School communicated to families that the suspect had been apprehended near the school and was found in possession of a replica gun. She emphasized that there was no threat to the safety of the students and that the school day continued without disruption.

Local residents reported a heavy police presence in the area, and one family shared that their son had run from the suspect, mistakenly believing that the individual was chasing him as he attempted to evade the police. However, police clarified that the incident was unrelated to the school, and no hold and secure order was issued.

The incident has left some families shaken, especially considering that the school had experienced a fire less than a month ago on May 4. During that incident, the school was evacuated, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

While the details surrounding the armed suspect and their intentions remain under investigation, the swift response from law enforcement and the absence of injuries or direct threat to the school community are reassuring. The school administration, in collaboration with the police, will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of their students, staff, and families.
