A Toronto fugitive who had been on the run while awaiting sentencing for manslaughter in a 2015 fatal shooting in London, Ontario, is back in custody.
Ali Fageer, 28, was apprehended by Windsor police on Wednesday afternoon as part of a drug trafficking investigation in the city. Fageer had been wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection with the death of Mark McCullagh in 2015.
Mark McCullagh, 36, was fatally shot in the driveway of his home on March 9, 2015. He was approached by a group of men while taking out the trash. McCullagh’s wife called 911, and he was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
After evading police for almost three years, Fageer was arrested in January 2018. He had pleaded guilty to manslaughter, armed robbery, and other charges. However, while out on bail awaiting sentencing, he cut off his ankle monitor and went into hiding on January 30, 2020.
Windsor police, during their drug trafficking investigation launched in April, were able to identify Fageer as a suspect. Members of the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement squad apprehended him while he was sitting in a parked vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.
