Tragedy struck in Vaughan as a fatal double shooting at a recording studio claimed the life of 23-year-old Brampton resident Jayden Pitter.
The incident occurred in the early hours of May 24 at an industrial plaza on Creditstone Road near Highway 7 West. Another individual was also injured in the shooting and is currently in stable condition at the hospital. As investigators search for the suspects, it has come to light that Pitter was previously involved in a court case in Hamilton involving a 7 year old being shot.
Responding to a shooting report, York Regional Police arrived at the scene just before 4 a.m. and discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Jayden Pitter was found with severe injuries to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was immediately taken to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries.
Police have described the suspects as individuals dressed in dark clothing and are also seeking a dark-colored, mid-size SUV believed to be connected to the incident. Authorities have classified the shooting as targeted and are urging witnesses or individuals with video footage to come forward and assist in the investigation.
Interestingly, Hamilton Police had previously arrested and charged Jayden Pitter, then 20 years old, in connection with the shooting of a seven-year-old boy on Gordon Street in January 2020. At the time of the arrest, the firearm used in the incident remained missing.
The shooting occurred on Thursday, January 23, 2020, prompting a response from law enforcement. The injured child was immediately transported to the hospital and has been recovering from the injuries sustained.
Hamilton Police identified Jayden Pitter as a suspect through their continued investigation. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, he was apprehended and brought before the courts to face multiple charges.
These charges include discharge of a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, possession of a firearm while prohibited (three counts), careless use of a firearm, failure to comply with probation (three counts), failure to comply with court orders (two counts), and breach of youth probation (three counts).
