Following the Maple Leafs’ first playoff series victory in 19 years, the celebrations were mostly peaceful, except for an incident involving a fan who allegedly slapped a police horse on its hindquarters on Saturday night. Toronto police reported that the man was arrested for public intoxication, and neither the horse nor the mounted officer were harmed. Once the man was sober, he was released with a Provincial Offence Notice from 52 Division. The celebrations at Bremner Boulevard and York Street, near the Scotiabank Arena, lasted for approximately an hour after the Leafs’ road victory in Game 6, after which fans were advised to disperse from the area. No other arrests or citations were made around Maple Leaf Square after the overtime triumph in Tampa. The Leafs’ victory over the Lightning marked their first appearance in the NHL playoffs’ second round since 2004. Depending on the outcome of the Game 7 match between the Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers on Sunday night, they will face one of those teams in the second round.
